Kids Events at The Poway Rodeo

Poway Rodeo is fun for the entire family with several opportunities for kids to participate in our Jr. Rodeo events or simply enjoy the extra activities created just for them!

Kids Zone

Sponsored by Poway Kiwanis

Before the rodeo, kids can enjoy the Fun Zone sponsored by the Poway Kiwanis that includes inflatables, obstacle course, ultimate bungee, and all kinds of fun especially for our cowboy kiddos.

Kids’ Buck Day

The Saturday afternoon performance of the Poway Rodeo is Kids’ Buck Day. Almost everything for kids is $1, including General Admission tickets for children, tickets to the Kids Zone (each ride is $1), snacks, and more.

Junior Barrel Racing

Are you aspiring to become a professional barrel racer? We invite you to compete for the fastest time during the Jr. Barrel Racing event at the Poway Rodeo. The top three times will receive an awards buckle.

Congratulations to the Winners of the Poway Rodeo Junior Barrel Qualifiers!

A huge shoutout to the talented young riders who competed in Saturday’s Poway Rodeo Junior Barrel Qualifier on July 12, 2025! Your hard work, dedication, and lightning-fast runs earned you a well-deserved spot at the Poway Rodeo this fall.

We’re proud of each of you—see you in the arena!

Mutton Busting

Sponsored by Justin Boot Company

We are looking for a few little cowgirls and cowboys for our most anticipated event, Mutton Bustin’! Local kids have an opportunity at real rodeo action by riding a mutton (sheep) during each of the performances of the Poway Rodeo. Each child will receive a participation buckle and the winner will receive a gift card from Justin for a pair of Justin boots!

2025 Mutton Busters are Full

Mutton Busting Rules and Regulations

  • 12 riders are allotted for each of the three performances, Friday, September 26 at 7:30 pm, and Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 and 7:30 pm.
  • All riders must wear jeans, boots, and long-sleeve shirts (PRCA Arena Requirements) and wear an approved riding helmet. Justin will be providing vests and helmets.
  • Must weigh 50 pounds or less on the date of ride and be at least four years of age.
  • Walk-through will be at 6:00 PM on Thursday, September 25, at the rodeo grounds (Poway Valley Riders Association, 14336 Tierra Bonita Rd., Poway). • There is a $50.00 entry fee for Mutton Busters. Payment will be made online at the time of application. The entry fee is nonrefundable.
  • Any products used to help the rider stay in place is prohibited.
  • The rodeo reserves the right to disqualify a rider based on the lack of safety of the rider or the surroundings. This includes the unwillingness of the rider to ride.

Entries will open at 8:00 am on Friday, August 1, 2025. We will announce your performance date by September 5th. Once your application has been accepted and you receive your performance date, the rider will receive two general admission rodeo voucher codes, one for the rider and one for a parent, guardian or guest.
