The 2009 Poway Rodeo Queen Horsemanship

The competition began with the Queens Horsemanship Competition which was held Saturday May 2nd at 9:00 a.m. at the Poway Valley Riders Association, (PVRA),14336 Tierra Bonita Rd., Poway 92064. (The site of the Poway Rodeo.) The contestants were judged on their riding ability. Contestants performed a combined Reining Pattern/ Barrel Racing / Queens Run to music and were scored by a panel of three judges. Admission to the Horsemanship Competition was free. The audience enjoyed a pancake breakfast which was available for $5.00.

The 2009 Poway Rodeo Queens Pageant was Sunday, May 3rd at 5:00 pm. The Pageant was held at the Midland Elementary School Multi Purpose Room, 13910 Midland Road, Poway California. Food and refreshments were available during intermission. Admission was $5.00.

Rodeo Queens become the ambassadors for the sport of Rodeo. Knowledge of the sport is essential. The Pageant includes a sequestered interview with three judges during which knowledge is tested for equine, and rodeo facts, as well as current events. Rodeo Queens must be able to speak in public and demonstrate poise and articulation. The contestants must give a speech and answer impromptu questions on stage to demonstrate their public speaking ability.

This year we are excited to announce an additional division to our Rodeo Queens Pageant Competition, Poway Rodeo Young Miss for cowgirls ages 10 – 12. Junior Queen Candidates are for ages 13 – 16 and Queen Candidates are for ages 17 – 23. Weekly meetings were required to help prepare the girls for the pageant. We call it Cowgirl University! Congratulations to all of our graduates. For more information contact our website: www.powayrodeo.com or Lisa Banning at: Queens@PowayRodeo.com. The 2010 Poway Rodeo Queens Pageant will begin with an orientation meeting on Wednesday, January 20th. Please check our website for further information.
