Hannah Jones Queen Contestant

My name is Hannah Jones, and I am a senior attending Mountain Valley Academy in Ramona. Horses have always been a big part of my life. I participated in the National Pony Club Association for ten years, reaching a C2 level. The past three years, I have been riding Western, learning to team pen, and sort cattle. Last year I was the Ramona Rodeo Jr. Queen and loved, being a part of the rodeos and the Western lifestyle.

Outside of working with my horses, I am very involved with my 4-H program. I am the Ramona Jr. Fair 4-H representative, The Paisanos 4-H President, and an active member in the fair board and steering committee. Aside from my busy lifestyle, I enjoy spending quality time with my friends and family, participating in church activities, mentoring new young riders, and making time to listen to the saddle squeak on a nice long trail ride. After I graduate high school I will be attending college studying in the fields of animal science and nursing. While attending college I will be working at the Helen Woodward Therapeutic Riding Center, working with disabled children.
I would like to thank my sponsors:

The extent of her equestrian experience covers a wide range of events: jumpers, hunters, cross country, and gymkhanas. She was even in the Poway Rodeo in 2005, participating in the Junior Barrels event.

Heather was inspired to seek the title of Poway Rodeo Queen by her riding trainer Jamie Sweat, who also ran for Poway Rodeo Queen. She has always admired her trainer for doing that, and now she is starting to follow in her footsteps. Heather is excited to be running for the title of Poway Rodeo Queen for the city she loves-Poway.

2009 Poway Rodeo Jr. Queen Contestants

Laura Anderson Jr. Queen Contestant

Laura Anderson is sixteen years old and a junior at Mountain Valley Academy. She has been involved in horses her whole life, and enjoys riding her appaloosa horse, Shorty. In addition to competing with him in open shows, she also performs with him on an equestrian drill team called the Rhythm Riders. Laura volunteers with organizations such as Camp Hope, Leg-Up Ranch, and Relay for Life. She also volunteers at Rady Children’s Hospital, and plans to attend San Diego State University to pursue a career in nursing. A love of rodeo and the beautiful city of Poway have inspired her to represent the Poway Rodeo as their Jr. Queen.

A big thanks to my sponsors: REINS Therapeutic Riding Program, Poway Transmissions, Diamond D Feed and Supply, Matt Parker Hay Company, and Mary's Tack and Feed.  Thank you to my family for all your loving support, and to my trainer and friend Scherry Richter for all her hard work and support.

Natalie Averell Jr. Queen Contestant

My name is Natalie Averell, I am 15 years old, I have lived in Poway all my life and I attend Poway High School as a freshman. The horse I am going to be riding is a quarter horse named Bully. Every year I always look forward to the Poway Rodeo because I love watching and participating in it. I have been riding in Jr. Barrels for five years and two years ago I ran sponsor flags and grand entry for the Shooting Stars Drill Team in the Poway Rodeo. While riding for the past nine years I have enjoyed gymkhanas, local barrel races, and trail rides with my friends. Other activities I’m involved in are the Poway High School Novice Water Polo team, my church youth group, and I am employed part time at the local Sidewalk Sundae Shop.
My goals for the future include: making the Varsity Water Polo team while maintaining a high GPA, going to a four year college to pursue a degree in nursing, but most of all never loosing my passion for riding horses. I would like to thank my sponsors Crystal Gardens, In The Mix Yogurt, Tres Chic Boutique, grandma and grandpa, Aunt Sue, DeeDee and Papa Fe, and my awesome mom and dad. Thank you all so much

Hannah Bergman Jr. Queen Contestant

My name is Hannah Bergman. I am 14 years old and I attend Twin Peaks Middle School. My horse’s name is Ima Zippin’ Cowboy. My goals in life are to try my best in this competition, make new friends, create a stronger bond with my horse, try new things with my horse, and just have fun.

My interests include the Poway 4-H group. In my free time I like to assist with K-Ram (videography). Most of my time is devoted to horses and competing at horse shows. I predominantly ride Western but I also compete in other disciplines. I maintain my high GPA by attending after-school tutorials. But my true love is rodeo. I would be greatly honored to represent my home town and our rodeo as the Poway Rodeo Junior Queen.

I am also interested in camping, desert motor sports, technology gadgets, reading, Horror movies, hanging out with friends, family and my pets, and of course going to the rodeo.

I’ve owned, ridden, cared for and shown horses pretty much my whole life. I was in my first Lead-Line class when I was only 2 years old and since then I have shown in many Open and breed shows. I compete in English, Western, Trail, Halter, and Showmanship and when we’re not showing we like to go camping with our horses and friends. We have five horses and I am responsible for feeding, stall cleaning, and blanketing and helping with worming, vaccinations, show prep, grooming and exercise.

I was inspired to seek the title of Jr. Rodeo Queen by talking with Joanna Rogers and watching her prepare for her role as Poway Rodeo Junior Queen. It looked like a lot of fun and a really cool experience.

My favorite rodeo event is Bareback Bronc riding. I like watching the pick up men help the cowboy and then try to get the bucking strap off. Also, you get to just let loose and have fun, especially when the clowns tell you to dance.

Hollie Bogges Jr. Queen Contestant

My name is Hollie Boggess. I am 15 years old and am a sophomore at Poway High School. I have been riding horses for about four years and I own two thoroughbreds named Policy and Magic. On them, I do polo, gymkhanas, and trail rides. I hope in the future to become the best horsewoman possible and to play polo at the intercollegiate level. In the short-term future I hope to improve my gymkhana and barrel skills and finally win high point at my local gymkhana and a buckle at the rodeo for Jr. Barrels at the Poway Rodeo. Barrel Racing is my favorite rodeo event because of the athleticism and excitement involved and I would like to become the best barrel racer I can be.

I am seeking the title of Poway Jr. Rodeo Queen because I love the Poway Rodeo. I have been a volunteer and jr. barrel racer for the past three years and each year was an amazing experience. The Poway Rodeo holds a special place in my heart because it is my local rodeo and is something my family can do together. My whole family is involved in the rodeo and that has given me the opportunity to meet many amazing people and has allowed me to dive further into the world of rodeo. It would be an honor to represent the rodeo that I love. Win or lose I look forward to seeing everyone at the Poway Rodeo this year.

Kacie Doyle Jr. Queen Contestant

Kacie Doyle is a 14 year old 8th grader at Black Mountain Middle School. When she is not at school she is at the ranch riding horses for her trainer, and loves every second of it. She has been involved with horses since she could fit into the tiny saddle her uncle gave her. When she is not “living” out at the ranch, she is talking about horses or hanging out with her horsey friends. She loves rodeo and would love the opportunity to represent The Poway Coors Rodeo.

Her favorite activities include trail riding, breaking and finishing horses, jumping, team penning and sorting, showing hunter jumpers , and of course rodeo.

Her sponsors include: Western Diva Buckles, In the Mix Yogurt, and Simply Music.

Mariah Hunt Jr. Queen Contestant

My name is Mariah Hunt. My friends call me Momo for short. I am fourteen years old and attend Mesa Verde Middle School as an eighth grader. I have two horses Tuffy and Bonita. I am involved in a horse club at our school (name the club). I have ridden horses since I was four. I also play soccer. I have had a lot of equine experience. Such as I have been an active PVRA, (Poway Valley Riders Association), member for four years and participate in rodeos, local gymkhanas, and fun shows. I have ridden English, jumped, and trained in dressage. My favorite rodeo event is barrel racing not just because girls participate, but because you have to have a lot of guts to get on a horse and do three turns really fast, race for the finish, and stay in the saddle as you ‘turn and burn.’

What made me want to seek the title of Poway Jr. Rodeo Queen was every year I love to go to rodeos and I want to go to more. When my friends’ sister won a title as Rodeo Queen I got to go to every rodeo with them and see what it was like being a queen. I would love to be Poway Jr. Rodeo queen, to be involved with horses, meet new people, and enjoy the excitement of the sport of rodeo.

Lauren Ryskamp Jr. Queen Contestant

My name is Lauren Ryskamp. You can also call me Lolo. I am 13 and am in 7th grade at Twin Peaks Middle School. I have an Anglo Arabian horse named Ty. I plan to ride all of my life and grow up to be a large animal vet. I am all about horses!! But I have played and enjoy tennis, soccer, and softball. I also enjoying surfing and snorkeling with my dad because I love the ocean. I have been riding for 8- 9 years. I have done fun shows, gymkhanas, hunter jumpers, and the combined test.

What inspired me to seek the rodeo queen title is my Grandpa. He was a lifetime horsemen that taught me that if you try something new it is always a step closer to being the best. My favorite rodeo event is bull riding because even though it is suspenseful and dangerous, everyone has a smile on their face afterwards.

I would like to thank my sponsors’ Mom and Dad and Mr. and Mrs. Stecher. Thanks guys!

Maddie Teater Jr. Queen Contestant

Madison (Maddie) Teater is a13 year old 7th grader at Bernardo Heights Middle School. She hopes one day to become a record producer. She has been riding for 5 years and has been enjoying every minute of it.

She was inspired to run for Jr. Rodeo Queen when she helped at past pageants and helped queens at rodeos. The gorgeous outfits, getting asked for autographs, talking to Wayne Brooks. What a life! Her favorite rodeo event is bull riding. The cowboys trying to ride an animal 2 or 3 times their size is the best, most exciting way to end the night.

Lindsey Voth Jr. Queen Contestant

My name is Lindsey Voth and I am 16 years old. I am a junior at Valley Center High School. This is my third year in Valley Center 4-H. I am raising a veal calf and a lamb to take to the San Diego County Fair this summer.

I ride both Western and English at PVRA, Los Vallecitos Riders, and Valley Center Vaqueros horse shows. Last year I was Reserve Champion at Los Vallecitos Riders.

I am looking forward to the challenge of competing in this year’s Poway Rodeo Queen Pageant.

Felicity Davis Young Miss Contestant

Howdy. My name is Felicity Davis. I live in Poway. I am running for Poway Rodeo’s Young Miss. I’m eleven years old and in the 6th grade. Currently, I attend Twin Peaks Middle School.

A little about myself. At the age of four I started riding my first horse, a Palomino named Savannah. When I turned seven, my parents bought me my first pony. His name was Berry Boy. I’ve ridden him in the Rancho Bernardo 4th of July parade and participated on the PVRA Junior Drill Team. Since then, I’ve enjoyed showing my horses both at Gymkhana and Western Pleasure.

I spend most Saturdays up at Rolling Hills Stables with my new horse Sparkle. We enjoy trail riding with my friends and their horses. Recently, all of us started something new, vaulting on horseback. This daring activity demanded new skills, balance, flexibility, and teamwork. Other than horses, I like bike riding and listening to music.  I would like to continue learning as much as I can about horses. So, when I grow up, I hope to find an exciting career involving these amazing animals.

Bridgette LaHaye Young Miss Contestant

My name is Bridgette LaHaye and I am 12 years old. I attend Valley Center Middle School as a 7th grader. In the first trimester of this year, I have earned the Principal’s Award for having a 4.0 GPA. I also play on the school soccer team.

My parents bought me my first pony when I was 4 years old. My favorite horse is named Jedd. He is a quarter horse. Last season, Jedd and I rode in the Valley Center Vaqueros silver buckle series where we were Grand Champions. I enjoy participating in local parades on horseback. I recently achieved an award for logging 100 hours in the American Quarter Horse Association horseback riding program. I am a member of the Valley Center 4-H where I am raising a steer and a lamb to take to the San Diego County Fair.

I want to thank my parents who take me to all the events and help support my love of Rodeo and riding. My parents grew up in Poway and graduated from Poway High. My grandfather, Bob LaHaye, owned the local shoe store in Poway, “Bob’s Shoes” during the ‘70’s. My parents have seen Poway grow from a small town to a great city. We are just happy that the Rodeo tradition is still a part of Poway. I am honored to participate in this year’s Poway Rodeo Queen Pageant.

I continued western lessons on many horses there. Then, in 2007 I moved to Poway and started English riding.
